Guided by Nessie’s questions, Asish shares with us the role of dreams, the importance of giving oneself free time to imagine and the blurring of lines between leisure and work for nourishing radical alternatives and ecological models of democracy.

Fictions for Liberation is a series of encounters between affinities - especially organisers, activists and academics - that insists on the writing process of fiction as a way to untangle ourselves from mental and somatic restraints in order to create new ways of thinking, feeling, creating and engaging with reality. By confronting difficult and uneasy truths about the world we inhabit and how we relate to each other, we can still come together resolutely and powerfully through fiction. The term has been a conceptual anchor for the revolutionary work of the artistic collective ruangrupa, and an increasing number of other collectives, creatives, and activist groups in Indonesia and beyond. nongkrong is a practice, a tool, and a philosophy all at once. It centers on relationality, collective-making, and non-productive time to inform a decolonial art practice and an experience-based pedagogy. At its heart there is the recognition of the role played by 'simply' hanging out, by sharing space, time, food and conversation as conditions for collective imagination and learning. Here, we share the work of ruangrupa and the practice of the nongkrong as an invitation to reflect about which role does "non-productive" time and activities play, if any, in your work and organising?

By combining conscious breathing, rhythmic activation, and intentional silence, this practice serves as a bridge between our inner world and the natural cycles of the Earth. In this 90-minute session, recorded on the Spring Equinox 2026 by Phuong Nam, the "wave" of music was used to explore our internal landscape. This specific practice was designed as a ritual of transition—moving from the introspective stillness of winter into the vibrant, outward-reaching energy of spring.
